West California Academy of Art and Design and HuaXia Women’s Association co-sponsored the Live Bookmark Coloring Contest held at the 2018 Fitness Day and Health Fair event on November 18. In support of UNICEF, this art contest is organized by Rosemead Recreation Center and sponsored by HuaXia Women’s Association and West California Academy of Art and Design, providing a platform to young artists to showcase their talents, to pursue their artistic professionalism and to raise funds to help children in poverty via UNICEF’s charity program. 28 contestants participate in the 2-hour live bookmark art contest, and each contester is advised to donate $15 for the UNICEF. Each participant receives a certificate issued by the UNICEF stating that “when you support the UNICEF, you are joining the mission with the UNICEF in helping children in poverty for their survival and development.” This 2-hour live art contest raised $500 for the UNICEF. The contestants are divided into two age groups: under 8 years old and 9 years old up. Three winners are selected for each group. 9 Students from West California Academy of Art and Design Won 2018 Paint the Future Art Contest11/1/2018 The 2018 Paint the Future Art Contest Award Ceremony was held by Chinese Institute of Engineers-SoCal at the Diamond Bar Holiday Inn on October 13, 2018. 9 students from West California Academy of Art and Design won the contest. This year’s contest theme is “My Future Neighborhood.” Contestants are required to provide a short description as “I have noticed a problem in my neighborhood, and it is…”and “One way I can solve this problem is…” The contest opened to students of K-8 Grade, and the WCAAD winners are---- Eric Song, 10 years old: Inventing flying cars to solve the traffic problem; using Medi-robot to solve the medication problems. Alisa Chang, 10 years old: Using scientific technology to solve the water wasting problem and to better protect the environment. Angel Zhao, 13 years old: Planting and caring for everything around us to solve the problem of that everything nature-wise is slowly dying and fading away. Jenna Vuong, 9 years old: Inventing Water Transforming Pelican Robot to transfer water from flooded states to drought states. Angie Li, 8 years old: Inventing a recycling facility to turn trash into a playground and water park; inventing a multitask robot to make the neighborhood better. Brandon Clark, 7 years old: Traveling with hot air balloons to solve the traffic and air pollution problems; using steel frames to solve the lumber waste problem; building fish tanks to solve the global warming problem. Jaylen Lin, 7 years old: Inventing firefighter-robots to solve the dangerous working condition problem for human firefighters. Amy Song, 7 years old: Using robotic teachers and teleportation technology to solve the teacher shortage and low study efficiency problems. Symone Teng, 5 years old: Creating an underwater society to solve the traffic and air pollution problems.
