WASC Accreditation History
2021-
As of February 3, 2021, West California Academy of Art and Design has been officially granted an extended accreditation for six more years until 2027. During the past three years, after our initial accreditation in 2017, the academy has gone through a rigorous self-evaluation to analyze and adjust our program for the benefit of our community. This last fall The Academy submitted a self-study and underwent a virtual site visit and interview with the school leadership, faculty, parents and students from members of WASC (Accreditation Commission for Schools of Western Schools and Colleges). Our staff and faculty went through several meetings to discuss and adjust the program to maintain a quality art education and for discuss how we can evolve the program to provide current educational standards for our current and prospective student body. We thank you students and parents that participated in this process with us and we look forward to seeing the Academy grow. Please note the importance of accreditation below and the official letter presented to Principal Lei Wang

In April 2017 the Visiting Committee reviewed and recommended progress on the Schoolwide Action Plan and Learner Outcomes formalized our current tracking system. In addition, the Visiting Committee stated “the school has all the resources (leadership, finances, commitments, and profound sense of quality service for students). The mid-year team recommended to continue to review and revise their improvement plan without external monitoring.” A three-year accreditation was recommended, beginning with the 2017-2019 school year, approximately 300 students previously enrolled in WCAAD). As of April 2019, additional Satellites were accredited after visit. Principal and Directors of these branches are under the same Governing Board, administration, and support staff oversee satellites. Two of the sites are scheduled for review the Main Branch will conduct virtual site visit September 12, 2020 by the WASC Visiting Committee member.
Since initial accreditation visit, our data demonstrates that WCAAD has populated the Main branch with 200 additional students. Facility modifications in that specific Branch were commenced to occupy future student growth with the end date of April 2020. The Accreditation played a large roll on the legitimacy of and program student growth.
*Due to the Covid 19 in-person class school closure, Distant Learning request and urgency to create programs outside Los Angeles area required and initiated in order to continue general and special education services to students outside Los Angeles County and State.
