The criteria of judging include creativity, color, the techniques of the drawing, and how related the content is to the themes of the contest. Students from West California Academy of Art and Design take active part in the contests and win awards every year at the contest. Themed with “Love he Earth,” this year’s drawing contest is more than just an art competition. Environmental protection is no doubt a major issue confronting the modern society. The issue is certainly relevant to each individual citizen and teachers, along with parents, should lead the efforts in addressing the environmental problems to children.

Winners will be selected for Age Group 3-5, Age Group 6-8, Age Group 9-11, Age Group 12-15, Age Group 16-18. Besides, one Best Live Drawing Visual Effect Award will be selected from all entries. All contestants received gifts including T-shirt, toys, and brand markers. Koala Know is an online Chinese learning platform, and West California Academy of Art and Design is a WASC accredited art training center. The two joined efforts to host such an art contest for children, in order to deliver an important message to the children and their parents: Art and Chinese language are two essential skills for our next generation to be equipped with. Through art, children can absorb the perceptions of others. They become interested in other cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. According to art expert, the vividness of art experiences blurs the boundaries between self experience and the experiences of another. When children produce art, they are actually situated in other times and places, embodied in other races, genders, ages, and abilities. This is the very beauty of art education. Chinese is a fascinating, unique, and extremely rich language. Counting roughly 1.2 billion native speakers, it is the most spoken language on earth. Moreover, China’s rise as a global superpower is making it an increasingly significant means of communication for people in Asia and beyond. These two reasons alone should be enough to convince parents to encourage their children to learn Chinese.
