WCAAD Students Won Multiple Drawing Contest Awards During the Past Half Year of 2021

​Five WCAAD students won awards at the 2020-21 National PTA Reflection contest.

The theme for 2020-21 PTA Reflections contest is “I Matter Because…”

Angie Li, 10 years old, won the California State 2nd Place Award. She won the 1st Place awards at the school level and district level respectively.

Angie’s artwork is titled “Paint the Future Together”. “I matter because I am a small part of the world,” in the description she writes, “I have small hands to make a difference in the future, just like any other kids. We will paint he future together!”
The sibling students Melanie Zhang, 10 years old, and Ariston Zhang, 8 years old, won the Temple City School District 2nd Place Award and 1st Place Award respectively.

Parent-teacher association (PTA) is a formal organization composed of parents, teachers and staff that is intended to facilitate parental participation in a school. PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. There are six arts categories – dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. Entries are reviewed at local, regional, state and national levels. ​​


Aden Li won Semi-Finalists Certification at the 2020-21 National Toyota Dream Car Art Contest

Out of 2,063 artwork submissions this year, Aden Li, 10 years old, was selected among the 99 U.S. Semi-Finalists at the 2020-21 National Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.

The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest is a worldwide contest presented annually that is designed to inspire creativity in young generation and imagine the future of mobility. The contest is open to children age 4-15.


Students Won Awards at the 2021 EDI Children's Drawing Contest

5 students won the 1st Place: Alisa Chang, 13 years old; Angie Li, 11years old; Venita Ye, 10 years old; Michael Sun, 7 years old; Isabella Liu, 4 years old. Lucas Zhao,7 years old,2nd Place;Clarissa Cheng,8 years old,3rd Place;Maggie Du,7 years old,Best Creativity;Katherine Chang,4 years old,Best Composition;Annie Shiyin Wang, 9 years old, Best Composition。
7 students won the Excellence Award---- 3-5 Age Group: Daine M Feng,Jordan Li,Thea Zhou,Victoria Li;6-8 Age Group: Abigail Bai,Verna Liu,Garrett Li .

The drawing contest has been held annually for 21 years.  This year’s theme is “Our City’s Guardian.” Children from the age groups of 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-15 years old in Southern California are invited to participate and encouraged to draw in their originality, creativity and love for sports.  The criteria of judging include creativity, color, the techniques of the drawing, and how related the content is to the themes of the contest. WCAAD Students take active part in the contests and win awards every year at the contest.


Five WCAAD students won prizes at the 2021 American Weiquan Mother’s Day Painting Competition

The theme of the contest: My Dear Mom.
Madison Ho won the 3rd
Place of Youth Group with a scholarship of $180 and trophy & certificate.

Eric Chang won Excellence Award of Youth Group(9-13).

The prizes for Excellence Award are a scholarship of $60 and trophy & certificate.


Two WCAAD students won prizes at the 2021 Ranch Market Mother’s Day Drawing Contest

Melanie Zhang, 10 years old, won the Fotile Title Prize with a $300 gift card;

Ashley Pei won the California State 3nd Place Award at the Global Fish Art Contest held by the Wildlife Forever

Wildlife Forever is a nonprofit conservation charity. Its mission is to conserve America’s wildlife heritage through conservation education, preservation of habitat and management of fish and wildlife. Since 1987, Wildlife Forever has funded conservation works in all 50 states and Canada with more than 1,500 projects throughout North America.


Ashley Pei won the California State 1st Place Award at the National Directing Change Program and Film Contest themed “Hope”

Her winning artwork is titled “Growing Hope”.

The Directing Change Program and Film Contest is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate young people about critical health topics through the medium of film and promote social justice by changing conversations in schools and communities.


Venita Ye won the Creativity Award at the Rosemead Virtual July 4th Chalkathon Contest

The city’s Beautification Commission invite residents of all ages to display their patriotic pride while beautifying Rosemead in the comfort of their own homes. To continue safe practices and social distancing, a Virtual July 4th Chalkathon is conducted. Photos of the chalk art are required to be emailed.

The winning recipients are presented with a summer-time themed gift basket, along with other prizes, and are recognized in the City’s social media outlets. Their chalk artworks are posted on the City’s website and social media. 


Alisa Chang won the 2nd Place Award at the art contest of Placentia Jazz & Art Festival

The prizes include a package of Blick art materials and $75 cash.  Alisa and her younger brother Eric have been studying at WCAAD since 2013.  They take active part in various art contests and have won many awards.
All the winning artworks were produced by the students during the period when they were taking WCAAD online class.

During her time at WCAAD she not only produced exceptional work, but also participated in art competitions such as the juried show Narrative with her painting “Hero”! This artwork was selected from 11 schools, all from the San Gabriel Valley schools.

During this pandemic Katrina worked with WCAAD’s online instruction and produced a remarkable piece that impressed her admission officers and granted her scholarships and a bright future.
