22nd Senate District Award winners of the 2019 Fitness Day & Health Fair Drawing Contest were announced recently. Six students from West California Academy of Art and Design (WCAAD) won the awards: Kendrick Lin, 13 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Dai Jun Li, 7 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Sofia Huang, 7 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Amy Luo, 6 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Celia Zhou, 6 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Lucas Liu, 5 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion. Besides, 4 WCAAD students won the Rosemead Park & Recreation Award of the 2019 Fitness Day & Health Fair Drawing Contest: Jieni Liao, 9 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Xinyu Chi, 8 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Kexin Lei, 7 years old, theme: Healthy Living; Jayden Liu, 5 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion. Every year students from West California Academy of Art and Design take active part in the Rosemead Fitness Day and Health Fair Children’s Drawing Contest, a contest celebrating the importance of creativity and healthy lifestyle expressed through art. The 2019 contest provided three themes - “Healthy Living,” “Protect the Environment” and “Water-in-Motion” for contestants to choose.
WCAAD instructors take efforts in their daily teaching, cultivating children with the concept of environment protection. “It is important to teach our next generation to contribute to green and sustainable development,” the WCAAD Principal Lei Wang said, “introducing environment protection education into schools is crucial for the next generation, and instructors have the responsibility to help students develop the habit of healthy lifestyle at a young age.”

39th Congressional Award winners of the 2019 Fitness Day & Health Fair Drawing Contest were announced recently. 12 students from West California Academy of Art and Design won the awards, including Keqin Chen, 16 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Hannah Zhou, 14 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Amy Guo, 9 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Jing Qi Liang, 9 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Bernard Zhang, 9 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Yuhan Kong, 9 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Jacquelyn Cheng, 8 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Hannah Kong, 7 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Annabel Ly, 6 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Michelle Huo, 5 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Roy Leung, 5 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Blair Li, 4 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion. This annual art contest requires contestants age 3-19+ to submit art work on either of the following themes: 1. Healthy Living 2. Protect Environment 3. Water-in-Motion. Basis for judging entries: Originality, artistry, and thematic expression. The selection was judged by visual arts, cultural majors and official representatives.

Harris), including Irene Xue, 11 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Mingxi Yan, 11 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Thy-Van Nguyen, 10 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Bella Luo, 10 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Jessica Sun, 7 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Jacob Yang, 6 years old, theme: Healthy Living; Damian Edward Li, 6 years old, theme: Protect Environment. Four students won the U.S. Senator Award (Diane Feinstein): Ziyao (Emily) Zhuo, 15 years old, theme: Protect Environment; William Wu, 9 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion; Sofia Zhou, 8 years old, theme: Protect Environment; Amelia Zhen, 5 years old, theme: Water-in-Motion.
Seven students from West California Academy of Art and Design won top awards in the 2019 LA Web Children’s Drawing Contest. This year’s theme is “My Imagination”. Kaylee Ha, 13 years old, Eric Chang, 10 years old, Angie Li, 9 years old and Victoria Wang,6 years old, won the 1st Place Award for different age groups respectively. Two students from West California Academy of Art and Design won the 2nd Place Award: Katelyn Peng, 10 years old, and Serena Li, 8 years old. The winning artworks will be framed and exhibited at L.A. Web Culture Center and the Museums. LA Web Children’s Drawing Contest, the largest and most prestigious event of its kind for kids ages 3 to 16 years old in California, has been held for 22 years and attracts thousands of children to participate each year. For every age category, the top three (first-place, second-place and third-place) winners receive a trophy, a certificate, a mounting frame and special gifts. Excellence Award winners receive a trophy and a certificate. All other contestants who are not selected for an award also receive a certificate of recognition. “Allowing a child to draw with freedom and without boundaries is a critical component to childhood development because it opens the mind and frees the spirit.” Lei Wang, the principal of West California Academy of Art and Design said. She believes that children can form thoughts and ideas in their artworks that may be surprising to the adult. “LA Web art contest is a very good opportunity for children to express unlimited imagination through the broad subject so that we could understand the beautiful and colorful world of children of different ages.”
