Congratulations to WCAAD student Geman Lin on her acceptance to The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM)!
FIDM is a private for-profit college with multiple campuses in California. It offers degree programs in majors including fashion, entertainment, beauty, interior design, and graphic design. The FIDM Museum Collections span more than 15,000 fashion objects dating primarily from the eighteenth century to the present, and 200,000 Special Collection artifacts. Notable Alumni include Marina Toybina, Lubov Azria, Lauren Conrad, etc.
Geman has been a student with WCAAD for about a year working with the portfolio preparation group. In her short time at the Academy, Geman has dedicated her time to fulfill her goal and dream for Fashion School.
She is a true seeker of knowledge and trust WCAAD’s faculty, in her educational journey always seeking for additional information on subjects, while at the same time, doing due diligence with immense research on subjects she is passionate about.
Geman’s passion for Fashion initiated a variety of experimentation, media and personal challenges set for herself and WCAAD instructors. Surpassing these trials put forth, various instructors have often commented on her conduct and resilience. Her efforts to have her art engage with the world is evidence that demonstrates she is ready to move to higher level institute.
In class she was not outspoken like the others, but when called upon her opinions and critique were insightful and showcased her engagement investment and assistance to others work as often than not her comments propelled critical class dialogue. She was never satisfied with settling and turning in projects for a grade but to really producing memorable quality art production.
During the time working on her fashion portfolio, Geman finished a site-specific work of art design to interfere with a natural scenery. The 3D art piece is made with a collection of man-made and unnatural elements. For the viewer, question of consumption in our daily life and the reliance of unnatural products that we easily discard affect our natural habitat. Objects and colors almost appear neon in relation to the environment and scale is intentionally mimicked to convey a sense of realistic animal size. This piece becomes more powerful in its designated location rather than in a formal exhibit.
WCAAD students are well equipped with traditional, creative and personal critical outlooks for a portfolio that is evident of a variety of exploration and strong presentation.
Currently, WCAAD provides both Online Classes and In-Person Classes (Note: students must wear masks for In-Person classes). Whether your children simply have an interest in art, or would like to learn more about art careers, the carefully calibrated mix of rigorous courses are designed to help individuals of all skills levels get the most of their art education studies at the Academy.
