2019 Fitness Day & Health Fair was held on Sunday, November 17 at the Rosemead Center. Thousands of people took part in this annual community health-themed event. West California Academy of Art and Design provided voluntary Environmental Art Creation for parents and children in Room 3 of the Rosemead Center. According to Wang Lei, the principal of the Academy, the goal of this activity is to spark ideas for parents and children who want to learn about the importance of reusing and recycling resources for environmental sustainability. The recyclable items can be easily found in the home, such as toilet paper roll, milk and juice cartons, plastic containers, jars and cereal boxes. The children learned how to make bookmarks with their own artworks. ![]() Each child also received free gift of one set of markers sponsored by BIANYO. 27th Congressional Award winners of the 2019 Fitness Day & Health Fair Drawing Contest was announced on November 17. Four students from West California Academy of Art and Design won the awards, including Eason Xue, 5 years old; Ming Cheng Jiang, 5 years old; Sophie Du, 7 years old; and Ashley Zhou, 11 years old. Every year, the Academy joins effort with the Fitness Day & Health Fair organizer to celebrate the event and hold art activities such as bookmark designing, coloring contest, face-painting, etc. In addition to offering art education programs for children, the West California Academy of Art and Design faculty have also been continuously taking time and efforts to provide voluntary public service for the community. During the past ten years, the principal Wang Lei, the students and the staff members have collectively contributed more than 5,000 hours to domestic and international public service.
