In addition to offering art education programs for children, the faculty of West California Academy of Art and Design have also been continuously taking time and efforts to provide voluntary public service for the community. During the past ten years, The Principal Lei Wang, the students and the staff members have collectively contributed more than 5,000 hours to domestic and international public service. In March 2018, Ms. Lei Wang led students to participate in a group mural-painting activity for beautification of the San Gabriel community. Every year, the Academy Joins effort with IAPAC and AAAA to celebrate July 4th holiday and hold art activities including coloring contest, face-painting, pin-making, etc. On June 10, 2017, the Academy participated in the Jefferson Middle School “Energize” Expo, providing artistic button pin making service to parents and students. During each year’s Easter holiday, the Academy Joins effort with San Gabriel Kiwanis Foundation to hold Egg Hunt art activities including face painting, egg hunt, and coloring contest. As one of the sponsors, the Academy helped Project NEO to successfully raise funds for $15,000 at the Rubber Duck Race and Design Contest held on May 15th, 2016 at Monterey Park. Project NEO (Nexus, Enrichment, and Opportunities) is a non-profit organization that provides after school tutor program at no cost. In May 2016, the Academy sponsored for the China Anhui Province Huangmei Opera US Tour, helping promote Chinese traditional art form---Huangmei Opera in LA county. In January 2017, the Academy Joined effort with San Gabriel Chinese Association to hold a cultural celebration and Lunar New Year Art Workshop for the community. In 2013, the Academy donated a student group artwork “Happy Spring Festival” (36 X 138 inches) to the San Gabriel Library. Each year, the Academy takes active part in the annual Rosemead Fitness Day and Health Fair, Providing free art workshop, free lecture on Children’s Art Education and free art contest for participants. On March 5, 2016, the Academy instructors gave free presentations on art education for the 2016 San Gabriel Valley Youth Summit held by Pacific Clinics Asian Pacific Family Center and Garvey School District. In 2015, the Academy participated in Halloween Community Volunteer Art Service, providing free face-painting service to the children of the community. In June 2017, the Academy joined effort with the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum to hold the art exhibition of special needs young artists, providing artistic button pin making service to the public at the opening ceremony. Ms. Lei Wang was awarded the position of an Art Promotion Committee Member of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum.
