It is my great pleasure to announce that WCAAD student Yue “Jessica” Long will be attending UCLA in Art for the fall 2023! Additional admitted colleges include: Otis College of Art and Design- scholarship $ 72,000 UCI UCSB UC San Diego Jessica demonstrated a talent that is exceptional. Jessica has always been experimental with her work and demonstrated knowledge and thought-provoking artworks. Her illustrations were evolutionary as evident in her skill and delivery. Her creativity and passion for art, has propelled her to be as active in class and engage with the art world in different areas, even instructing children in her spare time. She has committed and dedicated her time to pursue classes here at the Academy as a transfer student while attending community college. She learned various softwares and programs and explored with a variety of art disciplines; both traditional and contemporary. Overall, Jessica created work that would generate conversations and dialogue with unique elements. Her overall portfolio demonstrated that the ideas and topics for her were areas that not only were engaging but provocative. She was always able to transform a space and exploit materiality. I believe she is ready to move to the next phase in her career as an artist/ designer. I have seen her grow and mature as a person and engage her peers in meaningful art critique and conversations as she is well respected by her peers. Jessica is an amazing talent and I see her wanting to improve and not solely rely on her skill set. She is committed to make an impression professionally. Due to the pandemic, she was held back and now is ready to share with the world her unique perspective and talents. Every project for her must be of quality and refinement. She shows fortitude, experimentation, and drive. Her use of material, color, space, and ideas have taken her to new avenues of growth and investigation. Jessica always did research making sure her work had a modern sensibility and discourse. We are grateful for her energy and hard work that as you see paid off.
