The San Gabriel Fire Department student artwork donation ceremony was held this Tuesday July 18, 6:00 pm in the San Gabriel Council meeting room, located at 425 S Mission Drive. 12 copies of WCAAD student artworks themed “Firefighters” were donated to the San Gabriel Fire Department, through art the students expressed their feelings of love and respect to the Guardians of Our City. The San Gabriel Council Members, Fire Department officials and other City leaders participated in the event, including San Gabriel Fire Station 51 Fire Chief Steven Wallace, San Gabriel Mayor John R. Harrington, San Gabriel Vice Mayor John Wu, San Gabriel Councilmember Eric Chan, San Gabriel Councilmember Tony Ding, San Gabriel Councilmember Denise Menchaca, Chinese American Political Action Committee Vice Chairman Linda Shen, Chinese American Political Action Committee Secretary Yuanpei Gao, Chinese American Education Association President Robert Liu, US China Economy Trade and Culture Art Federation President Sun Wei, Special Need Education Senior Teacher Michelle Hsu. “Fire trucks and firefighters are our students’ favorite themes for art creation,” WCAAD principal Lei Wang said, “You can see from these art pieces that our children draw with their hearts.” In children’s minds, firefighters are Heroes who are taking risks to battle the blaze, rescue people and save lives, have the Fire Dragons under control. Firefighters provide us a harmonious community. They are Idols of the children. ![]() Indeed, art makes children understand everything better, because it opens up new worlds and enriches children's lives. Drawing is an important source of knowledge, and it can bring children together and can be part of a positive shared experience. Children’s minds can be very creative and wonderfully imaginative. “These young artists have been taking art classes at our school for many years,” said Ms. Wang, “It has been such a joy to watch them grow and make tremendous improvements in creating their own, unique art.”
