In the past years, some students have already taken advantage of WCAAD’s fantastic online classes with successful outcomes even getting into prestigious colleges. We have students coming from Canada, New York, Georgia, Kansas, Texas, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shandong Province, Anhui Province…etc. The Academy encourages students who have not yet enrolled to participate in this enrichment program that is as nurturing as in-person classes. The Academy is providing the same rigor and doing their best to accommodate the community with the same exciting curriculum. In March 2020 with a global crisis looming, WCAAD staff acted fast. The Academy's instructors rapidly moved all classes online and kept operations running remotely Without Interruption! The WCAAD faculty have prepared online lessons that are accessible at home and nurturing to students. We are thrilled with the participation for those of you who selected to take classes in this engaging format. The academic year of 2021 and 2022 are challenging, yet very successful years with our 25 graduating students achieving 100% admittance to their perspective colleges. 15 students of the 2022 portfolio preparation class, in particular, have received scholarship offers $4,131,580 in total! WCAAD student Geman Lin took online portfolio preparation class during the epidemic year of 2020. She earned acceptance to her dream college The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). Daisy Wen is a dedicated student who has been at the Academy for more than 5 years. She continually traveled from San Diego on the weekends until the pandemic hit and was forced to go online. Nevertheless, she was able to output works with success. She earned acceptance to her dream college Art Center College of Design in 2022. Additional schools include: SVA, Otis,SAIC,CCA, CSULB, UCI, with scholarship offers of $184,000 total. Most notably, she won Regional at-Large-West Silver Keys at the Scholastics Art and Writing contest. She also received the Talent of Art Award from the CWBAC in March 2022. This 11-year-old girl is taking our online art class from Australia. Her mother came across news about our school on the internet in 2020 and added Principal Lei Wang's WeChat. She immediately signed up online art classes for her daughter after talking with Ms. Wang. Although her daughter is only in the sixth grade, she has already made plans for her child's future. The girl has a dream of going to U.S top-tier art colleges – we will help make her dream come true! Celine Li, 9 years old, is taking our online art class from Toronto, Canada. She is very into art and loves Ipad drawing particularly. She has never missed classes, and has made great progress within a short period of time. She won the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, 1st District Award at the 2020-21 Health Fair Children’s Drawing Contest. Ryan Wang and Evan Liu, both 15 years old, are taking our online Transportation Design and Product Design courses from Beijing. The instructor is Roman, the adjunct professor of Art Center College of Design. The two high-school students have already set their goal----applying for Art Center’s Transportation Design and Product Design in two years. Their parents respect the boys' choices and believe they will work hard for their dreams. They hope to improve their children's skills and lay a solid foundation for their future college study. By referral from friends, the parents contacted Principal Ms. Wang and registered online classes for their children. Kelly is taking our online art class from Taiwan. Our school is widely acclaimed both in the local community and overseas. Kelly, who lives in Taiwan, learned about our school from her relatives in Los Angeles. She signed up for our online art class in 2020, with a goal of applying for top art colleges in the near future. Yuki Gu is taking our online portfolio preparation class from Georgia; and Didi Fu is taking our online portfolio preparation class from Kansas. They both fly to L.A. to take our summer intensified portfolio preparation class and return Virginia and Kansas respectively continuing their high school study and taking our online art program at the same time. Kate Xiao, 8 years old, and her brother Owen Xiao, 7 years old, are taking our online classes from Texas. The siblings are residents of Texas and they started to take our online classes in 2020. We have witnessed their improvement in art and, they have won multiple awards for various art contests. Kate won the Senate Award at the 2020-21 Health Fair Drawing Contest, the Excellence Award at the 2020-21 LA Web Children’s Drawing Contest, and the 1st Place Award at the 2022 YCIA Youth Arts Festival. Kate and Owen both won the school-level Excellence awards at the 2022-23 PTA Reflections contest. With the expansion of the internet and the accessibility that most people have to computers, smartphones, tablets and Wi-Fi networks, online education has become a popular channel for many students to pursue their study. Our Online education is able to provide our students with a flexible learning environment from any location as long as they have internet connection. Now in its 30+ years of Art education, The Academy continues to adapt the program and curriculum to offer new ways to have meaningful interactions with students to create innovating ways of thinking through the Arts and build self-expression, research and exploration.
