“Parents of the newly registered students often say to me: ‘We have heard about West California Academy of Art and Design for a long time and it’s a highly recommended art school in our community.’” WCAAD principal Wang Lei said, “At first, I thought they were just being polite, but during the summer time many parents would really come from far away bringing their children to take our summer intensive art program. This has really surprised me and at the same time I feel so privileged.” Indeed, students from various countries and regions have signed up for WCAAD art courses, either in-person or online. Ukraine This student came from Ukraine. She just immigrated to the U.S. with her family and signed up for WCAAD portfolio preparation class right away with a goal of applying U.S. top-tier art colleges in the near future. Brazil This student flew from Brazil to the U.S. in 2019 taking WCAAD summer art class. She flew back to Brazil in the fall to continue her high school study. Thailand In 2019 parents and their daughter flew from Thailand to the U.S. taking a counseling session at WCAAD headquarters. They have learned about colleges and specific factors of how to create an individual plan with our credentialed professionals. We can help consult on how these, and additional factors can fit to specific applications depending on schools. Art production can play a crucial role into the admissions process, and though our experienced team will explain the admission process from the perspectives of a highly selective university, and various institutes for a better understanding of career options and education. Australia This 11-year-old girl is taking WCAAD online art class form Australia in 2022. Utah Lisa Chang,12 years old, came from Salt Lake City, Utah in 2019 to take WCAAD summer intensified class. She took 9-hour class everyday for consecutive three months. Aurora Zhou, 14 years old,came from Florida in 2022 summer. Didi Fu, 17 years old,came from Kansas in 2022 summer. These three students returned their respective states to continue their high school study. North Carolina Mina Li, 13 years old, was Ms. Noriko’s students in children’s creative drawing class between 2014--2018. She moved to North Carolina with her family in 2018. In 2020 she was very happy that she was able to resume WCAAD art class online with Mr. Omar for senior art study! Texas Congratulations to WCAAD student Kate Xiao, 9 years old, for winning the 1st Place Award with a prize of $50 at the 2022 YCIA Youth Arts Festival! Kate is a resident of Texas and she started to take WCAAD online class in 2020. We have witnessed her improvement in art and she has won multiple awards for various art contests. She won the Senate Award at the 2020-21 Health Fair Drawing Contest and the Excellence Award a the 2020-21 LA Web Children’s Drawing Contest. In the past three years, some students have already taken advantage of the WCAAD’s fantastic online classes with successful outcomes. The Academy encourages students who have not yet enrolled to participate in this enrichment program that is as nurturing as in-person classes. The Academy is providing the same rigor and doing their best to accommodate the community with the same fun curriculum. Now Owen Xiao, Kate’s younger brother, is also taking WCAAD online art class from Taxas. Sacramento Megan Wu,7 years old, came from Sacramento to take WCAAD summer art class in 2019. Her grandma and her mom drove six hours to Los Angeles for vacation but end up sending the girl to WCAAD for art class for the whole day everyday. San Diego Art Center bound! Congratulation to Daisy Wen as now she is a first year student majoring in illustration! Additional schools include: Otis with a scholarship of $72,000 total; CCA with a scholarship of $64,000 total; SAIC with a scholarship of $48000 total; SVA; CSULB; UCI. Daisy is a dedicated student who has been at the Academy for more than 5 years. She continually traveled from San Diego on the weekends until the pandemic hit and was forced to go online. Nevertheless, she was able to output works with success. Her development in the Academy has been crucial in visualization and execution of form in her work. This is evident as she has submitted to several art competitions. Most notably, the Scholastics Art and Writing where she won Regional at- Large -West Silver Keys. She received the Talent of Art Award from the CWBAC in March 2022. Diamond Bar Congratulations to the WCAAD siblings for winning awards at the 2019 Health Fair Drawing Contest! Blair Li, 5 years old, won the 39th Congressional Award, and Damian Li, 6 years old, won the U.S. Senator Award. They come from Diamond Bar every weekend to take WCAAD art class based in San Gabriel. Irvine Congratulations to WCAAD student Jonas Ma for his acceptance to Columbia University! Additional college offers include UC, Berkeley;USC with a scholarship of $64, 000/4 yrs;Otis with a scholarship of $92, 000/4 yrs;Pratt with a scholarship of $100, 000/4 yrs;CCA with a scholarship of $96, 000/4 yrs;Art Center with a scholarship of $60, 000/4 yrs;UC, Irvine with a scholarship of $80, 000/4 yrs;Washington University,St. Louis with a scholarship of $48, 000/4 yrs;UC San Cruz; UT Austin; University of Washington; UC San Diego; UC Davis. Jonas Ma has been a student at WCAAD beginning his freshman year in high school. He spent a very vast number of hours and dedication in art and design often passing 40+ hours. This commitment catapulted him into the students you see today. Four years ago, his parents moved to Irvine CA from China dreaming about a good future for their children but never imagining their dreams could come true. Jonas has grown immensely both technically and creatively. Walnut Congratulations to WCAAD student Stella Wu for winning the 1st Place Award with a prize of $100 at the 2022 “Water Is Life” Poster Contest by Walnut Valley Water District. Stella is a resident of Walnut and she started to take WCAAD art class in 2022. She works very hard and we are happy to see her rapid improvement in art within a short period of time.
WCAAD also has students coming from Canada, New York, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shandong Province, Anhui Province…etc.
