Jenny Guan “Broken Reflections” The broken mirror represents the ideological awakening of women. Women have been trapped and marginalized for thousands of years. Today, women are standing up. We aim to completely break through these shackles, so we break this mirror, letting cracks appear. In doing so, we can break through the difficulties to find our world. “Nothing…and Everything” As I’ve grown more comfortable with creating artwork, I’ve inevitably created self-imposed expectations; I’ve fallen back into mu old habits: everything must be crafted with thought-out motifs and narrative. In response to those old habits, I created this: its meaning? Nothing. I let my whims guide my brushstrokes, I painted on a strange surface; I welcomed spontaneity. In doing so, I rediscovered the exhilarating spark creating artwork instills.
