Student from West California Academy of Art and Design Admitted to Art Center-Transportation Design12/29/2018 Mingkun Yan, a 22-year-old student from West California Academy of Art and Design, is accepted to the prestigious Art Center College of Design for the 2019 academic year. His major is Transportation Design. “This is an exciting time to be entering the field of transportation design.” Mingkun says. Art Center’s Transportation Design is a world-class program which prepares graduates for careers in automotive interior and exterior, motorcycle, marine, aircraft, commercial transport, personal mobility and public transit design. Its impressive list of alumni includes top designers at virtually every major studio around the globe. For seven decades, Art Center has educated the global design leaders who have brought beauty, innovation and meaning to the way people travel. Art Center graduates led the teams that created the iconic cars of the 40’s and 50’s, the muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s, supercars, family cars, and a majority of the new concept cars unveiled at major motor shows each year. The future of personal mobility is being designed at Art Center where students are exploring the next evolution of car design as well as the entire spectrum of transportation. Mingkun came to the US to apply to college and discovered the portfolio preparation program provided by West California Academy of Art and Design (WCAAD). He came across the Academy by attending its Open House. He spoke to several instructors and was impressed by the caliber, rigor and ultimately the work students were producing. Specifically, for him, what sold him on the program was the instructor for his major, Roman Ineguez. Roman has been teaching at WCAAD for over six years. He also lectures at Art Center College of Design as an Adjunct Professor preparing young automotive design students for a very challenging future. He has extensive automotive design and styling experience working for multiple divisions of General Motors, including Senior Creative Designer for General Motors Corporation. “Not since the birth of the automobile has the industry seen such rapid changes taking place and these changes bring great opportunities for talented designers.” Roman says. Mingkun began attending WCAAD in early spring of 2018 and went through an intensive portfolio course work. He was accepted to Art Center in November 2018. Roman will be his first year instructor at Art Center. If you are interested in applying for Transportation Design, come sign up for WCAAD portfolio preparation course! Students will learn innovative creative skills with transportation vehicle design and related components, and develop compelling, sustainable and valuable transportation and mobility solutions for a better future. Courses will cover merging gap between aerodynamics and efficiency, performance and safety including motor vehicle, highways, roads, bridges, bus, train, and aviation transportation. The program encourages creativity and budding strategically thinking beyond but including sketchpad. Students will have discussions on impact of the vehicle manufacturing industries, creating better transportation solutions at a system and product level.
