The 7th International Chinese-American Youth and Children Art Contest Award Ceremony was held at the Nixon Center on Jan 6, 2019. 9 Students from West California Academy of Art and Design won awards. 28 students won Legacy Award for Encouragement: Ailee Fang,Aislyn Liu,Alex Tang,Alice Gan ,Allison Gao,Andy Liu,Ashley Zhou,Cadence Chan,Charmaine Cheung,Chloe Liang,Ella Chan,Genesis Guo,Hayley Wu,Isabella Sun,Isabella Zhao,Jett Jasper,Jieni Liao,Lauren Li,Lillian Wang,Lina Wu,Madison Ho,Meini Pang,Nina (Jiarong) Chen,Sarah Liu,Shekinah Chan,Sophie Lyu,Sariah Chan,Vincent Guan. “Aren’t you impressed to see that non-Chinese native children can create great artworks about Chinese culture? This is the very beauty of art education.” Lei Wang, the principal of West California Academy of Art and Design said, “Through art, children can absorb the perceptions of others. They become interested in other cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. Ms. Lei Wang and her students with Mr. Shaoguang Ding According to art expert, the vividness of art experiences blurs the boundaries between self experience and the experiences of another. When children produce art, they are actually situated in other times and places, embodied in other races, genders, ages, and abilities.
