WCAAD instructors encourage students to participate in art contests. Being creative and being able to learn are lifelong skills and can be used in everyday situations. The creative skills children have learned also apply to other subjects, increase self confidence and build a strong foundation for higher studies and future careers. “Allowing a child to draw with freedom and without boundaries is a critical component to childhood development because it opens the mind and frees the spirit.” Lei Wang, the principal of West California Academy of Art and Design said. She believes that children can form thoughts and ideas in their artworks that may be surprising to the adult. “LA Web art contest is a very good opportunity for children to express unlimited imagination through the broad subject so that we could understand the beautiful and colorful world of children of different ages.” LA Web Children’s Drawing Contest, the largest and most prestigious event of its kind for kids ages 3 to 16 years old in California, has been held for 26 years and attracts thousands of children to participate each year.
