WCAAD Student Irene Zhou Admitted by 8 Universities with Scholarship Offers Totaling $558,42010/30/2024 Congratulations to Irene Zhou on her admittance into Washington University in St. Louis. Irene is attending the school of Business and Finance. Her scholarship is $112,000/4 years. Additional Colleges admitted---- University of California Santa Barbara Scholarship $141, 808; University of California Santa Cruz Scholarship $177, 108/4 years; University of California Davis Scholarship $127,504/4 years; University of California Riverside; Northeastern University; NYU-New York University-Tisch School of the Arts; University of Washington. In a very fast time, Irene Zhou built art skills, understanding and application of societal issues observed in her artwork. “Women”: Being a female and the beauty standards, “pink tax”, fewer career opportunities, and stereotypical societal roles/expectations that come with it. “Tree of Doom”: Human’s ignorance of pollution. “Thomas”: One’s Struggles with their self-identity: attempting to grow while also satisfying the public’s expectations. Irene has been a stellar student with her enthusiasm and resilience to carry all projects to quality level as she wants to promote discourse in her work. Whether the art is successful or not, she is a great motivator, and I count on her to set an example for others as she loves to experiment and explore possibilities. Her Academics have been impressive maintaining a GPA of 4.0 all 4 years while balancing all her AP classes and art assignments and as an active participant to our community. Irene has been attending our school since 2021. As a child she also was part of our children’s program. Irene is a natural leader and is always first to delve into her assignments evidence outside the class is in her private endeavors. Even today, I see her giving back and being a productive agent that will represent and partner with various organization that support her. In her time here, she joined an Art competition Stop Hate, where she won first prize and received international recognition as the award ceremony was televised through a Chinese and American network. The City Mayor was present to hand her the city award as well as interviews. Last fall, she assisted me in coordinated our first senior art exhibit at our academy “Metamorphosis” that opened November 12, 24’. She organized our first mural at our Academy where she was the president of the “Inspirational Murals Committee.” She created a mural volunteer organization that promotes creativity and diversity through public wall murals and art productions expressing themes of individualism and self-love. She took on the executive officer, outreach coordinator, acquired artists, organized schedules, materials, fund raised, budgeted finances, designed concepts, and participated painted the mural. Outside school, she has interned at a medical office as a receptionist and other duties. She also interned at a furniture company and worked as a barista at a local Boba shop leading to her own entrepreneurship nail business-“Zinalis”. This is a testament of how she learns from others and creates a positive change. Her true nature is to be an activist that promot4s change. I know how important Visual and performing art is for Irene. Irene is very passionate about dance and is a singer/dancer and instructor for youth at Children’s hospital Colorado performing at the mid-Autumn Festival. She was awarded the medal and certificate for her service receiving the Presidential service award. Other awards include AP Scholar with Honor Award, and she was inducted to CSF for her academic grades, she won a National Society Certificate, A Career Skills Certificate, World Taekwondo Federation belt certificate and is a member of NHS. Irene is a true gem, and I wish her well in her future endeavors. (By Omar Gallegos, WCAAD Vice Principal and Director of Education)
